THE FORGOTTEN PRESIDENT / EL PRESIDENTE OLVIDADO
SYNOPSIS
"The Forgotten President" is a documentary that explores the brief and enigmatic presidency of Juan José Nieto, a federalist inspired by Francisco de Paula Santander, whose six months in office during the 19th century remain a mystery. Set against the political turmoil of Colombia, particularly in Barranquilla, the film intertwines Nieto's writings, interviews with historians, and rare archival materials to uncover the betrayal, political intrigue, and relentless pursuit of federalism that defined his presidency. Through reenactments and intimate interviews, the documentary paints a portrait of Nieto as a man deeply committed to his ideals despite facing personal and political betrayals. Flashbacks to his earlier life offer insight into the experiences that shaped his leadership, while the climax reveals how these betrayals ultimately led to his downfall.
